Popov Leather cuts and stitches full-grain leather wallets and belts by hand in Nelson, British Columbia. Ryan Popoff took an office job after art school and worked leather as a hobby, then made himself a wallet, and his wife Jill pushed him to sell it online.
For the first couple of years the company was the two of them in the basement of their house, doing the cutting, the sewing, the packing and the emails.
The workshop is on Ymir Road now and employs 18 people, and every piece is cut, sewn, burnished and checked there. The company guarantees its belts for life.
Leather comes from North American hides tanned at outside tanneries, and the saddle stitching uses waxed Tiger thread from Julius Koch in Germany.
